President to Posthumously Award Shaurya Chakra to Udaipur’s Martyr Major Mustafa in New Delhi on July 5

Udaipur : Udaipur’s martyr Major Mustafa Bohra will be posthumously awarded the Shaurya Chakra on July 5 in New Delhi. The award will be presented by President Mrs. Draupadi Murmu at the Rashtrapati Bhavan. Major Mustafa is the first martyr military officer from Udaipur district to receive the Shaurya Chakra.

Veerendra Singh Solanki, Deputy Secretary of the Shaheed Major Mustafa Trust, informed that the President will honor Major Mustafa with the Shaurya Chakra posthumously at the award ceremony to be held at the Rashtrapati Bhavan on July 5.

Major Mustafa’s mother Fatema, father Zakiuddin Bohra, and sister Alifiya Murta Ali will receive the Shaurya Chakra from the President. Major Mustafa’s parents have been invited to Delhi along with their family by the Indian Army Chief on July 3, 2024. On July 4, 2024, an honor ceremony will be held at the War Memorial India Gate by the Indian Army Chief, and on July 5, 2024, the Shaurya Chakra will be presented to Major Mustafa’s parents at the Rashtrapati Bhavan award ceremony.

Following the Shaurya Chakra presentation, Major Mustafa’s parents will return to Dabok Airport on July 7, 2024, by air. They will be grandly welcomed by representatives of various communities and political parties, led by Vallabhnagar MLA Udaylal Dangi.

Major Mustafa, born in Kheroda village of Vallabhnagar constituency in Udaipur district, was martyred in a helicopter crash on October 21, 2022, in Arunachal Pradesh. His mother Fatema recounted that on that day, Major Mustafa had taken flight with his comrades for a mission. While returning after completing the mission, the helicopter caught fire. Despite the possibility of landing the helicopter, Mustafa chose not to land it in the populated area of Meking, which was also an army base, to avoid significant civilian casualties. He instead diverted the helicopter towards the forest, resulting in the tragic accident.
