Apple’s iPad Air is reportedly being updated with an OLED display, making it the second tablet in the company’s lineup to replace the company’s IPS Liquid Retina LCD display with improved display technology. The company is also said to have chosen a supplier to present its updated iPad Air models. Earlier this year, Apple introduced the iPad Pro (2024) with new OLED back-to-back technology and a slimmer design. The iPad Air (2024), which was also available in two screen sizes, now has an LCD display.
The OLED model iPad Air could be introduced by 2026
According to a report in The Elec (in Korean), Apple will release an improved iPad Air with an OLED display in “early 2026.” The iPhone maker is also expected to release an improved version of the iPad mini with an OLED display later this year, which currently has an 8.3-inch Liquid Retina IPS LCD display.
Launched in May, the latest iPad Pro models (2024) feature an advanced OLED display that increases brightness, improves color reproduction, and reduces power consumption while offering a slimmer form factor.
Meanwhile, the rumored iPad Air OLED model doesn’t feature the same display technology, allowing the company to keep the device’s manufacturing cost and retail price lower than the iPad Pro model.
