Apple Quietly Downgrades Tech Specs of iPad Air (2024); M2 Chip Inside Has a 9-Core GPU

Apple has quietly dropped the specifications of the iPad Air (2024) unveiled at its Let Loose event on May 7. The tablet’s specs page on Apple’s website has been updated to include the iPad Air (2024) with the M2 SoC, a 9-core GPU instead of 10 cores, and other specs like core CPU and Neural. The iPad Air (2024) debuted with the M2 chip in 10.9-inch and 13-inch displays. The chip is equipped with an 8-core processor, 16-core Neural Engine and 8 GB of RAM. Apple initially mentioned that the GPU is 10 cores, but has now updated the iPad’s specification page.

The 9-core GPU of the iPad Air (2024) is mentioned. As reported by 9to5Mac, this is the first time Apple has sold a device with a 9-core GPU. It has also been reported that the GPU could be a downgraded version of the 10-core version found in other Apple devices such as the MacBook Air (2022).

Although the specifications have been updated, Apple has not officially changed the performance numbers. The company still claims it’s “almost” 50 percent faster than the previous generation.

The iPad Air (2024) has a Liquid Retina (LCD) display and an additional anti-reflective coating. There is a 12-megapixel wide-angle camera with automatic image stabilization on the back, and a 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera on the front. iPad Air supports Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3 connectivity and is available in two variants: Wi-Fi and Cellular.

The iPad Air (2024) starts at Rs 59,900 in India for the 11-inch Wi-Fi variant with 128GB storage, while the Wi-Fi + Cellular variant is priced at Rs 59,900. 79,990, while the Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi + Cellular variants of the 13.9-inch iPad Air are priced at Rs.74,900 and Rs.94,900.
