Himachal Weather to Change After Diwali, Snowfall Likely in High-Altitude Areas

Shimla, October 18 (Udaipur Kiran): Weather conditions in Himachal Pradesh are expected to change soon after Diwali, with the possibility of snowfall in the higher reaches of the state. Currently, the weather remains clear and sunny across most regions, but the Meteorological Centre in Shimla has predicted a dip in temperatures following the festival.

Himachal Weather

According to the weather department, a western disturbance is likely to become active over the state on October 21 and 22, bringing light rain and snowfall to upper mountain regions. Meanwhile, plains and mid-hill districts are expected to experience dry weather during this period.

For nearly two weeks, Himachal Pradesh has seen clear skies and warm afternoons, though mornings and evenings have turned noticeably cooler. In tribal regions, temperatures have already dropped close to the freezing point. While bright sunshine was recorded across districts including the capital Shimla on Saturday, dense fog covered areas such as Sundernagar in Mandi district early in the morning, reducing visibility to around 100 metres.

The department further stated that the weather will remain clear across the state until Diwali, which falls on October 20 this year. However, due to the approaching western disturbance, light snowfall is expected in high-altitude areas such as Lahaul-Spiti, Kinnaur, Kullu, Chamba, and upper Sirmaur on October 21 and 22. The weather is again likely to clear up across the state on October 23 and 24.

Himachal had already received its first snowfall of the season in early October, leading to a noticeable drop in temperature. With another round of snow predicted, the cold is expected to intensify further.

As per Saturday’s daily report from the Meteorological Department, Keylong in Lahaul-Spiti recorded the lowest minimum temperature in the state at 0.8°C, followed by Kukumseri at 2°C and Tabo at 3.4°C. In Kinnaur, Kalpa recorded 5.2°C and Reckong Peo 8.4°C. Manali recorded 7.2°C, while Kufri stood at 12.5°C.

Interestingly, several plains districts in the state recorded colder nights than Shimla. On Saturday, Shimla’s minimum temperature was 15°C, while Una recorded 14°C, Hamirpur 13.8°C, Mandi 14°C, and Kangra 13.5°C. Other temperatures included Sundernagar 12°C, Bhuntar 10.3°C, Dharamshala 11.8°C, Nahan 16.5°C, Solan 11.2°C, and Bilaspur 16.2°C.
