Heavy Rainfall Likely in Odisha for Next Five Days

Bhubaneswar, 2 September (Kiran News): A new cyclonic circulation has developed over the northeastern Bay of Bengal and may turn into a low-pressure area, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Tuesday. Due to its impact, Odisha is expected to receive heavy rainfall over the next five days.

Heavy Rainfall

Currently, scattered rain is being experienced in several districts, but widespread rainfall is forecast across the state in the coming days. In the next 24 hours, heavy to very heavy rain, along with thunderstorms and lightning, is likely in Rayagada, Gajapati, Koraput, Nabarangpur, and Malkangiri districts of southern Odisha.

The IMD has issued an orange alert for Koraput and Malkangiri districts, and a yellow alert for Kandhamal, Rayagada, Gajapati, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, and Nuapada districts. These regions may experience heavy rain and thunderstorms with strong winds at speeds of 30–40 km per hour.

Although the low-pressure system is not expected to intensify further, high waves are likely in the sea. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the Bay of Bengal for the next five days.

Director of the Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre, Manorama Mohanty, stated that many parts of the state will experience light to moderate rainfall, with heavy to very heavy rain likely at one or two places. Thunderstorms and winds of 30–40 km per hour are also expected in several districts.
