Jaipur, Rajasthan – Summer has arrived with full force in Rajasthan, as Barmer recorded a scorching 43.6°C, the highest temperature of the season so far. With mercury levels continuing to rise, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for heatwave conditions in two districts and a yellow alert in nine others, warning of extreme temperatures through April 9.

Temperature Soars Across Western Rajasthan
In the past 24 hours, six cities in Rajasthan registered maximum temperatures above 40°C, including Barmer, Kota, Chittorgarh, Jaisalmer, Jodhpur, and Jalore. Alongside intense heat, hot winds and dry conditions have also intensified across western parts of the state.
Night temperatures are also on the rise, with minimums crossing 20°C in Dungarpur, Dholpur, Ganganagar, Bikaner, Phalodi, Jodhpur, Jaisalmer, Barmer, Kota, Jaipur, and Ajmer. Barmer recorded a minimum of 25°C, while Jaisalmer saw 24.4°C.
Heatwave Alerts and Forecast
The Jaipur Meteorological Center stated that heatwave conditions are expected to worsen on April 7 and 8, especially in Barmer, Jalore, and Jaisalmer, where temperatures may touch or exceed 45°C. Dry westerly winds will likely dominate, creating severe heat stress, particularly in western Rajasthan.
Orange Alert: Issued for 2 districts with potential for extreme heatwave.
Yellow Alert: Issued for 9 districts for moderate heatwave risk.
The IMD has advised children and the elderly to avoid outdoor activities during the afternoon.
Relief on the Horizon After April 9?
According to weather experts, this heatwave phase is expected to persist until April 9. However, beginning April 10, a Western Disturbance is expected to become active over North India, bringing partly cloudy skies and a slight drop in temperatures in northern Rajasthan between April 11 and 13.
Currently, Rajasthan’s weather remains largely dry, with humidity levels observed between 10% and 25% in most regions as of Saturday evening.Public Advisory:
