Galgotias University Issues Apology Over Controversial AI Summit Incident

Greater Noida, February 18: Galgotias University has issued an apology regarding a controversial incident that occurred during the India AI Impact Summit 2026. The apology was made on Wednesday following significant backlash on social media.

The controversy erupted when a representative from the university presented a robotic dog named ‘Orion’ (Unitree Go2) as a product developed by the university’s Center of Excellence during the summit. This led to widespread outrage, prompting the university to vacate its stall in the expo area of the event.

In a press release, the university stated, “We apologize for the confusion that occurred at the recent AI summit. Our representative present in the pavilion was misinformed. They were unaware of the product’s technical origins and, in their enthusiasm to appear on camera, provided incorrect information, despite not having the authority to speak to the press.”

The university clarified that there was no institutional intent to misrepresent the innovation. They remain fully committed to academic integrity, transparency, and responsible representation. Understanding the feelings of the organizers, they have vacated the premises.

The issue began when Professor Neha Singh of the Communications department claimed in an interview that ‘Orion’ was developed by the university’s Center of Excellence. After the video went viral, users pointed out that it was actually the Unitree Go2, a commercially available product manufactured in China, priced between 200,000 to 300,000 rupees in India. It was criticized on social media as a ‘misrepresentation’ and ‘falsehood about Indian AI progress.’

Previously, the university had posted on the social media platform ‘X,’ expressing that they were disturbed by a propaganda campaign against the faculty and students. They emphasized that robotic programming is part of their efforts to enable students to learn AI programming and develop real-world skills using available tools and resources, as developing AI talent is essential today.

The university further stated, “Our vision focuses on student learning and innovation, providing access to modern technology so that students can gain practical experience and be prepared for the future. Spreading negativity can demoralize students who are working hard to innovate, learn, and build their skills using global technology.”
