Islamabad, April 1 – Just hours after Karachi experienced mild tremors on Eid, an earthquake struck Balochistan’s Barkhan district on Monday morning, sending fresh waves of concern across Pakistan. The quake, measuring 3.9 on the Richter scale, was recorded at a depth of 12 kilometers, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS).

The earthquake’s epicenter was located approximately 59 kilometers northwest of Barkhan, as reported by Geo News. So far, there have been no reports of casualties or property damage, but the tremors did cause panic among residents in the area.
Second Quake in Less Than 24 Hours
Earlier on Eid afternoon, at around 4 PM, Karachi experienced a magnitude 4.7 earthquake, with its epicenter situated about 75 kilometers north of the city. According to Pakistan’s Meteorological Department, the tremors were felt across several neighborhoods, prompting residents to rush outdoors in fear.
However, no injuries or damages were reported in Karachi either. The USGS estimated the Karachi quake at a magnitude of 4.6, with the epicenter located 65 kilometers east-southeast of Uthal in Balochistan, at a depth of 10 kilometers.
Seismic Activity Raises Concerns
Pakistan is situated on the active Alpide earthquake belt, making it prone to seismic disturbances. Balochistan and Sindh provinces, in particular, frequently experience moderate to strong earthquakes, highlighting the urgent need for improved disaster preparedness and public awareness.
Experts from the Pakistan Meteorological Department have advised residents in affected areas to stay cautious and follow standard safety protocols during aftershocks, which are possible following such seismic activity.
