Mumbai, May 2: In a remarkable start at the inaugural MCB Ladies Classic held in Mauritius, India’s Diksha Dagar made headlines by scoring a hole-in-one. Her confident performance has positioned her among the early contenders in the tournament.
Diksha recorded an impressive score of 4-under 68 in the first round at Constance Belle Mare Plage, placing her tied for fourth. Starting her round from the back nine, she quickly made her mark by achieving a stunning ace on the par-3 11th hole. She further boosted her score with birdies on the 15th and 18th holes, reaching a total of 4-under. Despite a bogey on the fifth hole, she finished strong with another birdie on the ninth.
Among other Indian players, Tvesa Malik maintained a steady score of 2-under 70, tying for 20th place. Her round included three birdies on the front nine, although a double bogey on the ninth slowed her momentum. She regained her rhythm with birdies on the 15th and 17th holes on the back nine.
Hitashee Bakshi finished her round with a score of 1-under 71, placing her tied for 30th, while Vani Kapoor struggled with a score of 78, making it a challenging task for her to make the cut.
With Diksha and Tvesa leading the charge, the Indian players are now focused on their upcoming home tournament, the Indian Open, later this year.
At the top of the leaderboard, France’s Agathe Laisne set the pace with a stellar performance of 8-under 64, showcasing remarkable consistency with 10 birdies. South Africa’s Cara Gorlei follows closely with a score of 7-under 65, which included two eagles, while Denmark’s Smilla Tarning Sonderby is in third place with a score of 6-under 66.
With several players, including Diksha, tied at 4-under, the competition is expected to be fierce as they head into the second round, where only the top 60 players and ties will advance, setting the stage for an exciting contest in the coming days.
