
Udaipur : This Ganesh festival, authorities are making it sure that no idols made of Plaster of Paris or other harmful materials are immersed in the lakes and rivers to check water pollution. The administration has requested representatives of the various Ganesh Mandals to perform eco-friendly pooja and symbolic immersion of the idols.
In a meeting held by the ADM city Sanjay Kumar, the officer instructed the officials of various departments to ensure that the NGT guidelines are complied with regarding eco friendly immersions of idols during the end of the 10 days Ganeshotsav on Thursday.
Boatmen and civil defense volunteers have been asked to keep a check on ghats. A route chart for the devotees taking out procession from various parts of the cities, have been chalked out and policemen have been deployed at various junctions. The Udaipur Municipal Corporation has designated 11 centers at Goverdhan Sagar lake, Gangaur Ghat, Rani Road, GanguKund, Badi Lake, Naila Talab, Ambapole etc where devotees would be asked to perform symbolic immersions of the idols and leave them at the designated places. All the idols would be collected by the municipal corporation later and disposed off accordingly, informed Narendra Shrimali, the health officer of UMC.
