Pune Rape-Murder Case: CM Demands Death Penalty for Accused

Mumbai, May 2: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has condemned the recent rape and murder of a minor in Pune, announcing that the accused has been arrested. He stated that the case will be tried in a fast-track court, and a demand for the death penalty will be made.

Speaking to the media on Saturday, Fadnavis described the incident as “extremely condemnable,” highlighting that a 65-year-old man allegedly raped and killed the innocent girl. “The accused has been apprehended, and we will demand the death penalty for such a heinous crime,” he added.

Earlier, Maharashtra Minister Yogesh Kadam mentioned that the investigation is ongoing, and efforts are being made to ensure the harshest punishment for the perpetrator.

The tragic incident occurred in Nasrapur village, Pune, when the girl went missing, prompting her family to search for her. During the search, her mutilated and bloodied body was discovered. CCTV footage from the area reportedly shows the elderly man taking the girl with him, aiding the police in identifying and detaining him.

Local residents are outraged by the incident, with angry villagers blocking the Pune-Bengaluru highway on Saturday. One protester stated, “I stand with this grieving community. While we live under the rule of law, the continuous failure of fast-track courts to deliver timely justice has eroded public trust. When justice takes years, it instills fearlessness in criminals, perpetuating a cycle of violence.”

Pune’s Superintendent of Police Sandeep Singh Gill confirmed that the accused, a 65-year-old man residing nearby, lured the girl to commit this atrocious act. He reported that the incident occurred between 3:30 PM and 4:00 PM on Friday, and the police were alerted shortly after 5:00 PM. Immediate action led to the arrest of the accused within one to one and a half hours.

Gill assured that a charge sheet will be filed against the accused within 15 days, and the case will be heard in a fast-track court. He also promised the protesters that the police would take strict action in this matter.
