New Delhi, May 2, 2026 (Udaipur Kiran) — The India Meteorological Department has issued a fresh weather alert for several parts of the country, warning of thunderstorms, rain, and strong winds over the coming days.
According to IMD, widespread weather activity is expected across north-west, north-east, eastern, central, and southern peninsular regions of India over the next 4–5 days. Many areas are likely to witness lightning, rainfall, and gusty winds.
In eastern India, Bihar, Jharkhand, and Odisha are expected to receive rain accompanied by thunderstorms till May 5. A severe storm warning has been issued for Bihar and adjoining Gangetic West Bengal on May 3 and 4, with wind speeds likely to reach 50–70 kmph.
In the northern hilly regions, Jammu & Kashmir may see light to moderate rainfall between May 2 and 5. Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand are expected to receive similar weather between May 3 and 7, along with winds of 40–50 kmph. Hailstorm warnings have also been issued for Jammu & Kashmir (May 3), Himachal Pradesh (May 3–4), and Uttarakhand (May 4–5).
Across the plains, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Rajasthan are likely to witness thunderstorms and scattered rainfall till May 7. Uttar Pradesh may see similar conditions between May 4 and 7.
The IMD has also forecast continuous rainfall in the northeastern states for the next five days. Assam and Meghalaya are under alert for very heavy rainfall on May 2 and 3. Arunachal Pradesh and other northeastern states may continue to receive heavy rain till May 7. Sikkim and West Bengal are also expected to witness widespread rainfall, with very heavy showers likely on May 2.
In central India, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Vidarbha are expected to experience light rainfall and winds of 30–50 kmph over the next five days. Chhattisgarh may face strong thunderstorms on May 3 and 4.
Southern states including Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Karnataka are likely to receive rainfall till May 5. Heavy rainfall is expected in Kerala and Tamil Nadu between May 2 and 4. Coastal Andhra Pradesh may experience winds up to 70 kmph on May 4 and 5.
The IMD has advised people in affected regions to stay alert as changing weather conditions may impact daily life.
