Major Drug Bust in Mahasamund: Four Arrested Including Two Women

Raipur, May 2: In a significant operation, the Anti-Narcotics Task Force and Sarai Pali police have uncovered a major interstate marijuana trafficking network in Mahasamund district, Chhattisgarh. Four individuals, including two women, have been arrested in connection with the case.

According to police officials, the authorities seized assets worth ₹3,15,000, including two motorcycles and two mobile phones, which were allegedly used in the trafficking. The marijuana was reportedly intended to be transported from Odisha to the village of Devalbhata in the Sarai Pali area for local distribution. The accused were preparing to package the marijuana into smaller quantities for sale in the area.

The operation was initiated based on precise information received from a tip-off on April 30, 2026, indicating that individuals from Odisha were bringing marijuana for sale in the Sarai Pali region. Following this, the police set up surveillance near the village of Arjunda. Shortly after, four individuals arrived on two separate motorcycles, each carrying a male and female passenger, with a bag containing the contraband.

As one of the suspects began transferring the contents of the bag to another, the police intervened and apprehended all four. A search revealed 10 kilograms and 270 grams of marijuana in the bag. Subsequently, the accused were charged under Section 20(B) of the Narcotic Act.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Shankar Behera (45) and Chanchal Behera (30) from Devalbhata village, and Kapil Bakul (23) and Rashmi Bakul (20) from Talmalakha village in the Boudh district of Odisha.

Police officials have stated that ongoing checking operations in the district have led to the seizure of a total of 5,779.831 kilograms of marijuana in 81 cases over the past three months, resulting in the arrest of 213 individuals, including 53 from Chhattisgarh and 160 from other states. Authorities have assured that strict actions against drug trafficking will continue.
