Bhopal, 9 January : The biting cold continues to intensify across Madhya Pradesh, with temperatures dropping significantly. The second round of severe winter has gripped the entire state, and the chill is exacerbated by icy winds. In Pachmarhi, temperatures have plummeted to a record low of 0.2°C, while Bhopal has witnessed the coldest night in 10 years, with temperatures recorded at 3.6°C on Tuesday-Wednesday night. The same weather conditions are expected to persist on Thursday.
The Meteorological Department has issued a Cold Day Alert for nine districts in the state, and dense fog is being observed in nearly 20 districts this morning.

Weather Outlook
According to weather experts, the melting snow in Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Ladakh has caused an increase in wind speed. The jet stream winds were recorded at 268 km/h on Wednesday. The cold wave is expected to continue for the next 20 to 22 days. This marks the second cold spell of the season, following an intense cold wave in the first week of January. The weather is expected to remain cold throughout the month.
On Thursday, a Cold Day is expected in districts like Neemuch, Mandsaur, Niwari, Chhatarpur, Satna, Rewa, Mauganj, Sidhi, and Singrauli. Meanwhile, Gwalior, Morena, and Bhind, among 17 districts, will experience thick fog.
Rainfall Forecast
There is a possibility of light rain in some districts of Madhya Pradesh. On 10 January, light rain or drizzles may occur in Guna, Ashoknagar, and Shyopur. On 11 January, Gwalior, Shyopur, Morena, Bhind, Datia, Shivpuri, Ashoknagar, Vidisha, Raisen, Sagar, Damoh, Niwari, Tikamgarh, Chhatarpur, Panna, Satna, Rewa, and Mauganj are expected to experience rainfall. Rainfall is also forecasted for Damoh, Panna, Satna, Rewa, Mauganj, Sidhi, and Dindori on 12 January.
Temperature Details
Bhopal recorded 3.6°C on Tuesday-Wednesday night, marking the coldest January night in the last decade. Indore and Gwalior recorded temperatures of 6°C, while Ujjain saw 6°C and Jabalpur 7°C. Rajgarh, the second coldest district in the state, recorded 1.6°C. Several other districts, including Mandla, Raisen, Guna, Umaria, Malajkhand, Chhindwara, Dhar, and Ratlam, reported temperatures below 6°C.
Mornings in many cities were marked by medium to dense fog, with Gwalior-Chambal experiencing a cold wave throughout the day.
Daytime Temperature
The daytime temperature also saw a decline, with Rewa recording the lowest daytime temperature at 19.5°C. Other notable temperatures included Sidhi at 19.8°C, Malajkhand at 20°C, Jabalpur at 21.2°C, and Raisen-Umaria at 21.4°C. Damoh recorded 21.5°C, Tikamgarh 21.8°C, Pachmarhi, Naogao, and Shivpuri 22°C, Khajuraho 22.2°C, Bhopal and Narsinghpur 22.4°C, Guna 23°C, Betul and Dhar 23.2°C, Gwalior 23.3°C, Sagar 23.7°C, and Indore and Ujjain 24.5°C.
