WHO Deputy Director-General of Emergency Preparedness and Response Peter Salama said on Friday although there are currently 62 cases of the disease in the country, including 27 deaths, most individuals who were in contact with patients have been vaccinated.
The majority of them have been vaccinated 10 days ago and has still not shown symptoms of Ebola, which bodes well for the situation, Salama said.
Salama said although the vaccines help largely to contain the outbreak, the WHO remains “cautiously optimistic” because it has “learned the hard way in the past never to underestimate Ebola.”
Still, a new case of the disease was confirmed on Thursday.
Fourteen probable Ebola cases currently remain, and 10 more people are suspected of contracting the disease.
