BJP Legislators Welcome Orientation Program for Newly Elected Members

Kolkata, July 4: On the second day of a two-day orientation program for newly elected members of the West Bengal Assembly, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislators expressed that the initiative will provide representatives with a better understanding of the assembly’s functioning and enable them to play a more effective role.

BJP legislator Rajesh Kumar stated that such programs had long been anticipated. He noted that many senior legislators believe that this is the first training program of its kind, aimed at teaching legislators how to contribute meaningfully as effective representatives in assembly proceedings. According to him, this training will help strengthen democratic institutions.

Another BJP legislator, Dipanjan Guha, praised the program, emphasizing that the learning process should be continuous. He likened it to the need for regular cleaning of worship utensils to maintain their shine, stating that representatives must also engage in ongoing learning. As a first-time legislator, he mentioned that there is much for him to learn, and this program is a significant step in that direction.

BJP legislator Roopa Ganguly remarked that orientation programs are regularly held in Parliament and have established guidelines. She mentioned that she has learned this is the first such program being conducted in the West Bengal Assembly, which will help make the house’s operations more organized and effective. She also highlighted that West Bengal remains a part of India due to the struggles of Dr. Syama Prasad Mukherjee, calling for a statue of him to be erected in the state.

Regarding the controversy over the TMC building occupation by the opposition leader Ritabrata Banerjee’s faction, BJP legislator Bhattacharya stated that it is an internal matter, and the public is observing everything. He emphasized that those involved must provide answers.

On the orientation program, Bhattacharya described it as a welcome initiative, asserting that winning elections is not enough to serve the public; it is also essential to learn how to speak in the assembly, participate in proceedings, and adhere to parliamentary traditions. He expressed confidence that despite ideological differences, such training will enhance the assembly’s efficiency.
