Srinagar, July 25: Due to continuous rainfall causing damage, the Pahalgam route has been temporarily closed for repairs, and the Amarnath Yatra will now only proceed via the Baltal route. This information was shared by Anshul Garg, the Divisional Commissioner of Kashmir, on Saturday.
Garg stated that heavy rains have affected several sections of the Pahalgam road, prompting immediate repair and restoration work. Ensuring the safety of pilgrims is the administration’s top priority. Therefore, until the repairs are completed, the pilgrimage will operate solely through the Baltal route.
He assured that all necessary arrangements have been made for the safe and smooth movement of pilgrims on the Baltal route. Security forces, health services, traffic management, and other essential facilities have been strengthened to prevent any inconvenience and ensure the journey continues without interruption.
The Divisional Commissioner mentioned that repair work on the Pahalgam route is progressing rapidly. The administration is closely monitoring the situation and will decide on reopening the route once it is deemed completely safe.
He urged pilgrims to follow the guidelines issued by the administration and to rely only on official information regarding the journey. All relevant departments are working together to maintain a safe, organized, and smooth pilgrimage experience.
This year, a significant number of devotees have participated in the Amarnath Yatra, with over 395,000 pilgrims having visited the sacred Amarnath cave to pay their respects to Baba Barfani. The administration reports that the pilgrimage has been conducted peacefully and successfully so far. Weather conditions are being monitored continuously, and necessary measures are being taken to ensure the safety of the pilgrims.
