BJD Protests Against Deteriorating Law and Order in Odisha

Bhubaneswar, May 8: Opposition party Biju Janata Dal (BJD) activists surrounded Chief Minister Mohan Chandra Manjhi’s residence on Friday, demanding his resignation over the alleged worsening law and order situation in the state.

The protest was organized under the direction of BJD President Naveen Patnaik, in response to rising crime and a growing atmosphere of fear and insecurity among the public. Hundreds of youths, student leaders, and party workers participated in the movement, voicing their concerns for peace, security, and good governance in the state.

According to BJD sources, the current government’s negligence and failures have led to a troubling law and order situation. Women, youth, students, and the general public feel unsafe, and it is unfortunate that the morale of criminals is rising while the government neglects the safety of ordinary citizens.

The party has urged the state government to take immediate and stringent measures to restore public confidence and ensure peace and security in the state.

Recent criminal incidents have shaken both the state and the nation, prompting strong criticism from the opposition BJD and the Indian National Congress against the state government.

On Thursday, a mob in the outskirts of Bhubaneswar’s Balianta area killed GRP constable Soumya Ranjan Swain in retaliation for allegations of sexual harassment against two girls. Meanwhile, the family of the deceased constable and residents of his native village, Maujpur in Cuttack district, protested by blocking the Phulanakhara-Niali road.

Protesters demanded financial compensation for Soumya’s family and the release of his friend Om Prakash Raut, who was present at the scene during the mob attack and is currently in police custody.

The Commissionerate Police has arrested five individuals in connection with the murder of the GRP constable.
