JAGDALPUR, December 13 (Udaipur Kiran) – Union Home Minister Amit Shah has announced that with the end of Naxalism in Bastar, Chhattisgarh, a new chapter of development will begin in the region. He inaugurated the ‘Har Ghar Roshan’ project in Jagdalpur on Saturday as part of this initiative.
During the final ceremony of Olympic 2025 in Bastar, held under Shah’s chief patronage, he stated the government’s firm resolve to eliminate the red terror from across India by March 31, 2026. Shah expressed confidence that by November-December next year, the entire country and Chhattisgarh will be free from Naxal influence, paving the way for a Naxal-free Bastar to move forward.
The Home Minister pointed out that Naxals had acted like a barrier to Bastar’s development. With their removal, a fresh wave of progress will unfold. He highlighted that seven districts – Kanker, Kondagaon, Bastar, Sukma, Bijapur, Narayanpur, and Dantewada – will become part of India’s distinguished districts by 2030. Shah assured that every household in Bastar will have basic facilities, including banking services within 5 km, processing units for forest produce, dairy development, new industries, hospitals, and other essential infrastructure.
Shah praised Bastar’s rich culture, calling it one of the most beautiful in the world. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, to make the entire Bastar division the most developed tribal region in the country by December 2030. He promised housing, electricity, toilets, clean drinking water, gas cylinders, 5 kg of free ration, and free medical treatment up to Rs 5 lakh for every person in Bastar.
The Home Minister noted that over 700 surrendered Naxals had participated in the Bastar Olympic 2025, along with teams from the seven districts. He welcomed their involvement in sports as a positive step towards mainstreaming and rebuilding their lives. Shah emphasized the government’s focus on cooperative-based processing units for forest produce and dairy production to boost income across these tribal districts.
Plans for new industries, advanced education facilities, a world-class sports complex, and modern hospitals were also shared by Shah. He mentioned special schemes to combat malnutrition and rehabilitation programs for surrendered Naxals and those injured in the conflict. Bastar, he said, is transforming from a symbol of fear and violence to a beacon of development and sports excellence. He cited the increase in participation in Bastar Olympics from 1.65 lakh players last year to 3.91 lakh this year, with women’s participation nearly tripling.
Shah revealed that Chhattisgarh has been selected to host the Khelo India Tribal Games. He clarified that the government’s approach was not to kill Naxals in encounters but to encourage surrender and meaningful rehabilitation. He also praised tribal community leaders for their crucial role in guiding youth away from violence and urged social workers to help bring remaining armed individuals back into the mainstream.
