LUCKNOW, June 22, 2026 (Udaipur Kiran) : At least 15 people were killed in a major fire that broke out in a commercial building in Lucknow’s Aliganj area on Monday afternoon. The victims include 12 men and three women, with most of the deceased reported to be students. Rescue and relief operations continued after the blaze was brought under control.
The fire occurred in a building housing a pet shop and clinic on the lower floors, while the upper floors contained a study centre, coaching facility and a studio engaged in 3D art production and game asset outsourcing work.
According to reports, several students attending classes on the upper floor locked themselves inside washrooms in an attempt to escape the flames and smoke. One student, identified as Jayant, reportedly jumped from the first floor to save himself but fell onto a grill below and sustained serious injuries. Visuals from the scene also showed people jumping from upper floors as thick smoke engulfed the building.
The exact cause of the fire has not yet been confirmed. Preliminary suspicion points to a possible short circuit, though authorities have launched an investigation.
Firefighters, police personnel and rescue teams rushed to the spot. Fire crews broke through the rear wall of the building during rescue operations to reach those trapped inside. Multiple fire tenders were deployed to control the blaze. SDRF and NDRF teams also joined the rescue efforts.
Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak reached the scene and reviewed the rescue operation. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also visited the site following the incident. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh was reported to be travelling to Lucknow from Delhi.
