Winter Joint Pain? Follow These Simple Tips for Relief

New Delhi, 28 December. Joint pain becomes unbearable for many during winters. Due to the cold, problems like osteoarthritis or arthritis increase, making walking and movement difficult. However, by making some changes in daily routine, these problems can be managed effectively.

The Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India, has suggested some simple measures that can provide relief from this pain through small changes in diet and daily habits. Include simple and nutritious foods in your diet that are easy to digest. Kulthi (horse gram) is very beneficial for joints. Ginger (Shunthi) helps reduce inflammation. Eat sweet fruits like pomegranate and apple, which nourish the body.

Give your joints enough rest during winters. Regularly perform light and slow exercises like walking or yoga. Maintain the correct posture and keep your joints flexible. This strengthens muscles and reduces pain.

Avoid excessive physical labor or heavy work. Stop staying awake late at night. Avoid long walks. Do not hold back natural urges like urination and defecation. These habits increase the Vata dosha, which is a major cause of joint pain.

Since joint pain increases in winter, adopting the right habits is essential. First, give your joints complete rest without putting too much stress on them. But do not stay completely bedridden. Do light exercises daily, such as walking in the morning sun or practicing simple yoga poses like Tadasana and Virabhadrasana slowly. This keeps muscles strong, maintains joint flexibility, and reduces pain. Maintain correct posture while sitting, standing, or walking – keep your back straight and shoulders relaxed.

On the other hand, avoid heavy lifting or strenuous work. Stop staying up late; go to bed on time. Avoid long walks. Never suppress natural urges like urination or bowel movements. These habits increase Vata dosha, which worsens joint pain in winter. With these small changes, you can overcome arthritis-related problems in winter.

Body stiffness increases during winter, but these simple changes can help control arthritis naturally and safely. However, if the pain worsens, consult a doctor.
