Frequent Mouth Ulcers Could Signal Increased Pitta Levels in Body

New Delhi, 29 December. Mouth ulcers are often ignored as a common issue linked to stomach heat, but this is not entirely accurate.

There are multiple reasons for recurring mouth ulcers, which can cause significant discomfort. Burning and pain may make eating, drinking, and even speaking difficult. Today, we explain the causes and remedies for mouth ulcers.

Frequent mouth ulcers are not normal and often indicate poor digestion. Poor digestion affects not only the stomach but also the mouth, intestines, liver, and other organs. According to Ayurveda, mouth ulcers are connected to increased pitta in the body. Excess pitta causes ulcers, and in severe cases, these ulcers can extend to the respiratory tract and lead to stomach ulcers. Besides this, stomach heat, vitamin B12 deficiency, constipation, consumption of spicy food, and infections in the mouth can also cause ulcers.

Ayurveda suggests several remedies to manage mouth ulcers. The first is consuming mulethi (licorice) powder with honey twice daily to cool the stomach.

The second remedy is triphala powder, taken at night with lukewarm water. This reduces stomach heat and relieves constipation. Keeping the stomach clean helps prevent mouth ulcers.

The third is drinking coconut water twice daily. Naturally cooling, coconut water also aids digestion. For severe ulcers, applying a mixture of ghee and mishri on the tongue at night can reduce burning. Additionally, rinsing the mouth with water mixed with fitkari (alum) can reduce infections.

Along with these remedies, dietary precautions are important. Avoid hot and highly spicy foods and consume cold and liquid items like curd, buttermilk, and cold fruits. If ulcers do not heal within seven days, recur frequently, or cause severe pain, consulting a doctor is necessary.
