Bhopal, March 21 – The weather in Madhya Pradesh has taken a surprising turn amidst the early summer heat. Several regions across the state witnessed sudden changes in weather conditions on Thursday, with hailstorms, gusty winds, and light showers sweeping through over 20 districts including Bhopal, Sagar, Sehore, and Rewa. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), similar weather is expected to persist today, with rain alerts issued for 30 districts.
Unstable Weather Grips State: Rain, Hailstorms and Dust Storms Forecasted
Currently, three active weather systems—two cyclonic circulations and a western disturbance—are influencing the state’s atmosphere, bringing unpredictable weather. The IMD confirmed these systems are causing heavy cloud cover, thunderstorms, and hail in several districts.
Thursday’s unexpected weather brought some respite from the heat. Bhopal, Sehore, and Sagar experienced light showers and cloudy skies, while places like Rewa’s Sirmaur, Jawa, and Gudh witnessed intense rain and hailstorms. The stormy conditions cooled down several cities significantly. Day temperatures dropped across regions such as Sidhi (27.8°C), Rewa (28.8°C), Satna (31.4°C), and Nowgong (32.5°C).
Orange and Yellow Alerts Across Multiple Regions Through March 23
The IMD has issued a series of weather warnings for March 21 to 23. Today, orange alerts are in place for possible hailstorms in Damoh, Katni, Umaria, Shahdol, Dindori, and Anuppur, while strong winds are expected in Morena, Gwalior, Bhind, and Datia.
Thunderstorms and heavy winds are also forecasted for Shivpuri, Ashoknagar, Satna, Rewa, Mauganj, Sidhi, Singrauli, Jabalpur, Mandla, Narsinghpur, Seoni, Chhindwara, Pandhurna, Narmadapuram, Betul, and Harda. On March 22, Katni, Dindori, Mandla, Seoni, and Balaghat face another orange alert for hailstorms and storms.
By March 23, parts of Shahdol, Anuppur, and Balaghat are expected to see light rain and thunder, marking the end of this spell. However, a new western disturbance is predicted to activate from March 24, potentially bringing further disruptions to the region.

The unseasonal weather has prompted concern among farmers, especially those preparing fields for rabi harvesting. Authorities are advising people to secure loose objects, avoid unnecessary travel during storm warnings, and stay updated with real-time alerts.
