New Delhi, April 25: Delhi Capitals have provided a significant update regarding Lungi Ngidi’s injury. Ngidi sustained a serious head injury while attempting to catch a ball during the 35th match of IPL 2026 against Punjab Kings, leading to his immediate transfer to a hospital.
In a statement on their social media account ‘X’, Delhi Capitals announced, “Ngidi’s condition is stable, and he is expected to be discharged from the hospital soon.” Wishing for Ngidi’s swift recovery, both Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) also tweeted their support.
CSK expressed, “Sending all our strength to Lungi Ngidi and wishing him a speedy recovery.” Meanwhile, RR stated, “We are praying for Lungi Ngidi’s quick recovery and sending him all our strength and patience during this time. Come back stronger.”
Delhi Police managed to transport Ngidi from the field to the hospital in just 11 minutes. They reported that upon receiving the medical emergency alert, they acted promptly. Ngidi was shifted to BLK Max Super Specialty Hospital located in Rajendra Nagar. ACP Traffic Sanjay Singh coordinated with the control room to create a green corridor, allowing Ngidi to reach the hospital within minutes.
During Punjab Kings’ innings, Ngidi jumped to catch a ball, but lost his balance and fell headfirst to the ground, resulting in severe injuries to his head and neck. He was quickly taken to the hospital on a stretcher via ambulance.
Ngidi’s absence was felt by Delhi Capitals, as Punjab Kings successfully chased down the target of 265 runs in just 18.5 overs, marking the highest run chase in IPL history.
