Ngidi Suffers Head Injury as Delhi Posts Record 264

Delhi, April 25 (Udaipur Kiran): A concerning incident occurred during Match 35 of IPL 2026 at Arun Jaitley Stadium, where Delhi Capitals set a massive target of 265 runs against Punjab Kings.

After winning the toss, Delhi opted to bat first and posted 264/2 in 20 overs, the highest total of the season so far. In response, Punjab made a strong start, reaching 56 without loss in three overs, with Prabhsimran Singh and Priyansh Arya at the crease.

The match was briefly halted in the third over following a serious injury to Delhi fielder Lungi Ngidi. While attempting a catch at mid-off off Axar Patel’s delivery, Ngidi misjudged the ball and fell backward, hitting his head hard on the ground. He immediately held his head and remained on the field for some time.

The medical team rushed in and attended to him carefully, stabilising his neck and engaging in conversation. Ngidi was conscious and able to respond, but as a precautionary measure, an ambulance was brought onto the field. He was later taken to hospital. The match resumed after a delay of around 15 minutes.

Punjab accelerated in the fourth over, scoring heavily against Aqib Nabi. Prabhsimran Singh and Priyansh Arya played aggressive shots, making full use of a no-ball and the resulting free hit. After four overs, Punjab reached 83 without losing a wicket.

Following Ngidi’s exit, play resumed with Axar Patel continuing his over, while Dushmantha Chameera came in as a substitute fielder.

Earlier in the match, KL Rahul played a remarkable unbeaten innings of 152 runs, registering the highest individual score by an Indian in IPL history. The previous record was held by Abhishek Sharma, who had scored 141 runs last season against Punjab. Nitish Rana also contributed significantly with 91 runs, as the duo shared a 220-run partnership for the second wicket.
