New Delhi, April 25: Punjab Kings (PBKS) secured a remarkable victory against Delhi Capitals (DC) by six wickets in the 35th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. Chasing a daunting target of 265 runs, PBKS has now solidified its position at the top of the points table, having won six out of seven matches. In contrast, Delhi Capitals faced their fourth defeat in seven games.
Winning the toss at Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi Capitals opted to bat first, scoring 264 runs for the loss of two wickets. They lost their first wicket at a score of 28 when Pathum Nissanka (11) was dismissed. Following this, KL Rahul and Nitish Rana formed a formidable partnership, amassing 220 runs for the second wicket off 95 balls, putting their team in a strong position.
Nitish scored 91 runs off 44 balls, hitting four sixes and eleven fours before getting out. KL Rahul played a sensational innings, finishing with an unbeaten 152 runs off 67 balls, which included nine sixes and sixteen fours, marking the highest score ever achieved by Delhi Capitals in IPL history. With this performance, Rahul became the Indian player with the largest innings in IPL history. From the opposition, Arshdeep Singh took one wicket for 49 runs, while Javier Bartlett claimed one wicket for 69 runs.
In response, Punjab Kings chased down the target in just 18.5 overs, thanks to a stellar start from their opening pair. Prabhsimran Singh and Priyansh Arya added 126 runs in just 6.5 overs, putting their team in a commanding position.
Priyansh scored 43 runs off 17 balls, hitting five sixes and two fours, while Prabhsimran contributed 76 runs off 26 balls, including five sixes and nine fours, notably hitting boundaries on all six balls of the sixth over.
Despite losing three wickets for 145 runs, Nehal Wadhera and Shreyas Iyer steadied the ship with a partnership of 56 runs for the fourth wicket off 31 balls, guiding the team towards victory. Nehal scored 25 runs off 15 balls, while captain Iyer remained unbeaten at 71 runs off 36 balls, hitting seven sixes and three fours.
On the bowling front for DC, Kuldeep Yadav took two wickets, while Axar Patel and Vipraj Nigam claimed one wicket each. During the match, Delhi Capitals’ fast bowler Lungi Ngidi fell on his back and sustained a significant head injury while fielding, requiring hospitalization. Vipraj Nigam replaced him as a concussion substitute for the remainder of the match.
