Temporary Ban on New Patient Admissions; Instructions to Respond Within Five Days

Udaipur, 7 July – Dr. Shankarlal Bamnia, Chief Medical and Health Officer (CMHO) and Chairman of the District Registration Authority, has issued a crucial notice to the management of Magnus Hospital in Meera Nagar, Bhuwana, Udaipur. The notice imposes an immediate temporary ban on the admission of new patients and directs the hospital to respond to the findings of an investigation committee within five days.

Dr. Shankarlal Bamnia stated that District Collector and Chairman of the District Registration Authority, Arvind Poswal, had recently formed an investigation committee to probe the alleged gross negligence in the treatment of the son of Mrs. Apoorva Joshi and Mr. Yogesh Joshi. The committee’s report has been presented to the hospital management for their response. The vigilance committee’s investigation revealed that the hospital’s negligence resulted in the child losing vision in both eyes, which tarnished the image of the medical department and demonstrated an irresponsible attitude and alleged gross negligence in patient care.

Citing the findings of the investigation committee, Dr. Bamnia pointed out that the hospital had been playing with patients’ health and exhibiting serious negligence in treatment. He questioned why action should not be proposed against the hospital under the Clinical Establishment (Registration and Regulation) Act, 2010.

The notice highlighted that such conduct falls under inappropriate behavior and professional misconduct, potentially damaging the sanctity and reputation of the medical profession. Additionally, the hospital’s records showed excessive cesarean sections (preterm births), indicating a preference for financial gains over patient interests.

Temporary Ban on New Patient Admissions: In accordance with the provisions of the act, and to safeguard patients’ health, Dr. Bamnia announced an immediate temporary ban on the admission of new patients to Magnus Hospital until a final decision is made by the District Registration Authority in its upcoming meeting. Current patients will continue to receive treatment, but new admissions will only be allowed with the authority’s permission. He warned that legal action, including the revocation of the hospital’s temporary registration under the Clinical Establishment Act, 2010, may be taken if necessary.

The hospital management has been instructed to submit their response, along with relevant documents, within the next five working days.
