New Delhi, February 11: Haider Shah will replace Muhammad Johaib in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) team for the T20 World Cup 2026. The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 Event Technical Committee approved this change on Wednesday.
The ICC stated, “Haider, who has played 16 T20 internationals, has been selected as a replacement following Johaib’s removal from the team due to mental health and team welfare issues.”
Currently, the UAE team is placed fourth in Group D after losing their first match against New Zealand. They faced a heavy defeat by 10 wickets on February 10 against the Kiwi team.
In the match held at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, the UAE scored 173 runs while losing 6 wickets, marking their highest innings in a T20 World Cup to date.
The team lost Aryansh Sharma (8) early at a score of 12, but Alishan Sharafu partnered with captain Muhammad Wasim to add 107 runs for the second wicket in 77 balls, bringing the score to 119.
Sharafu scored 55 runs off 47 balls, hitting 2 sixes and 5 fours. Captain Wasim remained unbeaten with 66 runs off 45 balls, including 3 sixes and 4 fours, while Mayank Kumar contributed 21 runs off 13 balls. Matt Henry from the opposing team took the most wickets, claiming 2.
In response, Tim Seifert and Finn Allen led New Zealand to victory in just 15.2 overs. Seifert scored an unbeaten 89 runs off 42 balls, hitting 3 sixes and 12 fours, while Allen added 84 runs off 50 balls, including 5 sixes and 5 fours.
