Nearly a decade ago, the BJP came to power in Haryana with the motto “Haryana Ek, Haryanvi Ek,” aiming to bring about “good governance through systemic change.” Over the years, this vision has taken shape, with the government establishing a strong governance framework.
One of the most notable achievements of BJP’s tenure in Haryana is the elimination of the infamous “Perchi-Kharchi” system. This corrupt practice, which once dictated job appointments and admissions, has been rooted out, restoring trust among the citizens. As a result, Haryana’s reputation has significantly improved, and the people now take pride in a system that values merit above all.
Today, every family in Haryana, whether in rural or urban areas, believes that merit is the primary criterion for school admissions and government jobs. The Haryana government’s strict adherence to the “no bribes, no favoritism” policy has particularly benefited the underprivileged, allowing young individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds to achieve their dreams of securing government positions.
In the past, government jobs in Haryana were often awarded to those with connections, with interviews serving as mere formalities. The old “Kharchi-Perchi” system was notorious for its recruitment lists, which were often influenced by political leaders. This left many eligible candidates, particularly from poorer families, without opportunities. However, today, recruitment is conducted transparently, bringing joy to numerous households.
Now, it’s not uncommon to hear stories of children from laborers or rickshaw drivers securing government jobs purely on merit. These success stories have instilled a sense of pride among the common people in Haryana.
Mission Merit: Establishing a Transparent Recruitment System
When the BJP launched “Mission Merit” a decade ago, it aimed to bring transparency to the recruitment process for government jobs. This initiative has set an example for other states. A prominent report from Risalia Kheda village in Sirsa district highlighted how 35 young individuals secured government jobs, underscoring the government’s commitment to fair policies.
The people of Haryana fondly remember a time when newspapers were filled with reports of leaders’ relatives securing government positions. Today, the headlines celebrate children from modest backgrounds who have achieved success through merit.
Over the past decade, Haryana has witnessed a significant transformation under BJP’s governance. By eradicating corrupt practices like the “Perchi-Kharchi” system, the government has restored faith in its institutions. The emphasis on merit has opened doors for many disadvantaged families, ensuring a fairer and more transparent system for all.
