Banswara, Rajasthan – In a heartbreaking incident that has left a village in mourning, three young children drowned in a pond in Khunta Galiya village of Banswara district’s Sallopat police station area. The children were visiting the village with their family to attend a wedding ceremony when the tragedy occurred.

The deceased have been identified as Minakshi (9), Jinal (6), and Yuvraj (4). The siblings were cousins, and their sudden deaths have cast a shadow of grief over the entire village and the families involved.
Children Went to Water Cattle, Never Returned
The incident took place on Friday morning, a day after a wedding celebration at the home of Surmal, a resident of Khunta Galiya. Surmal’s sister and brother-in-law, Bharat, had come from the nearby village of Khunti Narji with their two children — Jinal and Yuvraj — to attend the ceremony.
While the parents returned home the next day, they left the children with their maternal uncle. That morning, Minakshi, along with her cousins Jinal and Yuvraj, went to the village pond to water the cattle. While at the pond, Yuvraj accidentally slipped and fell into deep water. In an attempt to rescue him, Jinal jumped in, followed by Minakshi, who tried to save both.
Tragically, none of the children were able to get out of the water due to its depth.
Locals Discover the Bodies After Hours of Searching
When the children failed to return home, worried family members began searching the area. The cattle were found near the pond, but there was no sign of the children. After a desperate search, villagers spotted the bodies submerged in the pond.
The children were immediately pulled out and rushed to a hospital in Jhalod, where doctors declared them dead on arrival. Their bodies were later sent for post-mortem at the Sallopat Primary Health Center and then handed over to the grieving families.
Police have registered a case and initiated an investigation into the incident.
Community in Mourning Over Irreparable Loss
This devastating accident has left the entire village in deep sorrow, with neighbors and relatives gathering to support the heartbroken families. The young victims were students in grades 1, 2, and 3, and their untimely deaths have sent shockwaves across the community.
Authorities are now reviewing safety measures near open water bodies in the region to prevent similar incidents in the future.
