Dharamshala, September 30 (Udaipur Kiran) : Major Vijay Singh Mankotia, a five-time MLA from Shahpur and former minister, has passed away, prompting a wave of grief across Himachal Pradesh. Local BJP MLA Sudhir Sharma and former minister Sarveen Chaudhary described his death as an irreplaceable loss to the state’s political landscape.
Sharma expressed that Mankotia’s contributions were significant not only to Kangra district but to the entire state, highlighting his integrity and leadership. “He was a vocal advocate for Kangra from the beginning,” Sharma noted, reminiscing about their long association since he was eight years old.
The circumstances surrounding Mankotia’s death were sudden; he was reportedly in good health until he suffered a heart attack. Sharma lamented the lack of state honors typically accorded to former ministers, stating that it is unfortunate for the government to overlook such traditions.
Former minister Sarveen Chaudhary reflected on Mankotia’s broad acceptance across political parties, noting his transition from the Bahujan Samaj Party to the BJP, which showcased his popularity. “He left us suddenly in his 88th year, surrounded by love from the people of Shahpur,” she said, offering prayers for his family’s strength during this difficult time.
Another female leader mentioned that Mankotia’s funeral was conducted with a guard of honor, adhering to guidelines for state funerals, although the lack of formal state recognition has raised concerns among his supporters.
The community remembers Major Mankotia not only for his political legacy but also for his commitment to public service, leaving a lasting impact on the lives he touched.
