Suryakumar Yadav’s Inclusion: A Crucial Opportunity to Regain Form

MCA’s official statement highlighted that Suryakumar Yadav’s participation in the Ranji Trophy quarter-final will provide him with much-needed game time to regain form.

The India batter has struggled in recent matches, accumulating only 28 runs in five innings against England and a total of 66 runs in his last 10 innings across various domestic and international formats. This match serves as a critical platform for him to regain momentum ahead of upcoming international assignments.

Key Additions to Mumbai Squad

1. Shivam Dube’s Return After Impressive T20 Performance

All-rounder Shivam Dube, who was instrumental in India’s recent T20I series against England, has also been added to Mumbai’s squad. In the two-match series, Dube showcased his all-round abilities, scoring 83 runs, including a half-century, and picking up two crucial wickets.

2. Shardul Thakur Looking to Continue His Form

Despite being currently out of India’s national setup, Shardul Thakur is expected to make an impact in the domestic circuit before the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. In Mumbai’s last match against Meghalaya, Thakur was named the Player of the Match for his four wickets across two innings and a stellar 84-run knock in the first innings.

Thakur has been one of the most consistent performers for Mumbai this season:

  • Matches Played: 7
  • Wickets Taken: 24 (Best: 4/43)
  • Batting Average: 47.62
  • Total Runs Scored: 381
  • Strike Rate: 101.87
  • Highest Score: 119
  • Centuries/Fifties: 1 / 3

His dual ability as a pace bowler and lower-order batter makes him a key asset in Mumbai’s quest for their record-extending 43rd Ranji Trophy title.

Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy Campaign So Far

Mumbai finished second in Group A after securing four wins, two losses, and one draw, accumulating 29 points. The team suffered a shocking five-wicket defeat to Jammu & Kashmir, despite boasting a strong squad that included Rohit Sharma, Jaiswal, Rahane, Iyer, Dube, and Thakur.

With a deep and experienced lineup, Mumbai will aim to overcome Haryana and advance further in the tournament, keeping their hopes alive for a record 43rd Ranji Trophy championship.
