Sprouted Grains Boost Digestion and Immunity in Winter

New Delhi, 19 November (Udaipur Kiran). The winter season has a noticeable impact on the digestive system, often bringing problems like bloating, constipation, gas and indigestion. Experts recommend adding sprouted grains to the diet, describing them as beneficial for both physical and mental health.

Sprouts

According to the Ayush Department of Madhya Pradesh, sprouted grains greatly support digestion and offer a simple, natural way to ease common stomach-related issues.

Sprouting significantly increases the nutritional value of grains. In the process, essential nutrients multiply, and enzymes become active, helping the body digest food more easily. Protein levels rise in sprouted moong and chana, while vitamin C, vitamin B complex, iron, calcium and antioxidants also increase substantially.

Including sprouted grains in daily meals provides multiple benefits. High fibre content helps relieve constipation, indigestion and gas, while keeping the intestines clean. The active enzymes make vitamins and minerals easier for the body to absorb. Low in calories yet rich in nutrition, they help control hunger and support weight management. Vitamin C and antioxidants strengthen immunity and protect against infections. The increased iron content helps reduce anaemia and improves blood health, which also benefits skin and hair. Biotin and protein support stronger, healthier hair.

Sprouted grains are also considered highly beneficial for people with diabetes due to their low glycaemic index.

Preparing sprouts is simple and hassle-free. Grains like moong, chana, black chana or mixed grains should be soaked overnight. In the morning, they can be wrapped in a damp cloth for 8 to 10 hours. Fresh sprouts can be eaten the next day with lemon, salt, black salt and roasted cumin, or added to salads or vegetable dishes. They are ideal for breakfast.
