Shrimali Community Includes Daughters in Holi Dhundhotsav

Udaipur, March 4, 2026 (Udaipur Kiran): A positive change in social outlook was reflected during the Holi celebrations of the Shrimali community in Udaipur, where daughters were seated alongside sons in the traditional Dhundhotsav ceremony.

Holi Dhundhotsav

The programme was organised at Shri Sanskar Bhavan by the Shrimali Navayuvak Seva Sansthan. A collective Dhundhotsav of 15 children was conducted, including eight boys and seven girls. In earlier decades, the ritual was observed only after the birth of a son on the first Holi. However, over the past few years, gradual changes have been seen, and daughters are now being given equal importance.

As part of the ceremony, children were seated in their aunts’ laps, and wooden sticks were struck together in accordance with tradition. It is believed that this ritual is performed for the well-being, prosperity, good health and fearlessness of newborns so that they may grow up confidently in society.

Hundreds of family members and community participants took part enthusiastically in the collective event. Speaking on the occasion, Sansthan President Prakash Shrimali explained the significance of Dhundhotsav and said such collective programmes help strengthen unity within the community while enabling families to perform traditional rituals at a lower cost. He stated that the ceremony is organised for the health, happiness and courage of children, so they can move forward fearlessly in life.

During the ritual, community members sang traditional songs such as “Hariya Baag Re Hariya Baag… Vaaga Ja Re Baaga Ja…” while striking wooden sticks.

Pankaj Latawat from the Sansthan thanked all volunteers and attendees for the successful organisation of the programme and said similar events would continue in the future.

Senior Vice President Narendra Dashottar, Bhagwati Lal Dashottar, Lalit Durgawat, Umesh Shrimali, programme convenor Hemendra Jaganawat, patrons Shantilal Ojha and Dinesh Latawat, and Praful Shrimali from Shrimali Yuva Sangathan were present on the occasion.
