The navy said 32 people were injured in the attack, while several others are reported missing. A search and rescue operation is currently underway in the surrounding sea area.

According to a navy spokesperson, the injured were rescued and admitted to a hospital where they are receiving treatment. Initially, the navy had stated that 101 people were missing and 78 injured after the attack. However, the spokesperson later clarified that the earlier figures were incorrect and updated information is being released as the situation becomes clearer.

Meanwhile, Iran has claimed that Mojtaba Khamenei, son of former Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, has been chosen as the country’s new Supreme Leader. However, the official confirmation will come only after Ali Khamenei’s funeral.

On the other hand, Israel’s Defence Minister Israel Katz said that whoever becomes Iran’s new leader after Ali Khamenei would also be eliminated. Katz added that it does not matter where the person is or what their name is, Israel will find them.

In another development, Iran carried out an attack on Saudi Arabia’s major oil refinery Ras Tanura, where smoke was seen rising after the strike.

According to claims made by the United States during the ongoing conflict, 17 Iranian vessels, including a submarine, have been destroyed so far. The operation reportedly involves more than 50,000 American soldiers, around 200 fighter jets, two aircraft carriers, and bomber aircraft.

The United States has named the military operation “Epic Fury,” which means intense anger. It has also claimed that Iran’s air defence systems, missiles, and drones have suffered heavy damage.

Meanwhile, during the search operation near Sri Lanka, some bodies have been recovered from the sea near the attacked Iranian warship. According to the Sri Lankan Navy spokesperson, the vessel had earlier issued a distress call. Officials believe the bodies may belong to crew members of the ship, though the exact number of deaths has not yet been officially confirmed. Authorities said the identification process of the bodies is ongoing.

In a separate development linked to the conflict, more than 65,000 people have been displaced in Lebanon following Israeli attacks. Lebanon’s Social Affairs Minister Haneen Sayyed said that around 65,000 people have registered at relief camps so far.

She said the ministry is responsible for providing shelter and essential supplies to the displaced people. According to her, another 10,000 to 20,000 people have also been forced to leave their homes, but many of them are currently staying with friends or relatives and are still in the process of registering for assistance.

Sayyed added that the situation remains tense and people are worried. She said memories of the 2024 war with Israel are still fresh, when people would wake up every night to the sound of drones or explosions. She also stated that the Lebanese government has declared Hezbollah’s military activities illegal.
