Kolkata, March 13 : Even before Holi celebrations kick in, West Bengal is already feeling the heat! The meteorological department has sounded a heatwave warning for four districts in South Bengal, predicting temperatures soaring five degrees Celsius above normal over the weekend.

With temperatures rising sharply, Kolkata and several other parts of South Bengal are bracing for unbearable heat in the coming days.
Which Areas Will Be the Hottest?
According to the Alipore Meteorological Department, these four districts will be most affected:
- Bankura
- Birbhum
- Paschim Medinipur
- Paschim Bardhaman
The forecast predicts a five-degree temperature spike, while Kolkata and surrounding regions are also set to witness above-normal temperatures by 3-4°C on Sunday.
Current Temperature Trends Across South Bengal
- Kolkata has already crossed 33°C, and with Holi approaching, it’s expected to hit 35°C.
- Panagarh (Paschim Bardhaman) has exceeded 36°C, marking one of the hottest spots in the region.
- Diamond Harbour & Bankura have also touched 35°C, with similar conditions in Kalaikunda & Purulia.
The next 4-5 days are expected to see further temperature hikes, with a rise of up to 4°C in maximum temperature and 3°C in minimum temperature.
Heatwave Impact: South Bengal vs. North Bengal
South Bengal: Blazing Heat & Dry Winds
- Hot winds from Odisha & Jharkhand are expected to cause severe heatwave conditions in Bengal’s interior districts.
- The entire region will experience extreme heat, making it unbearable for outdoor activities.
North Bengal: A Temporary Relief Before Heat Hits
- While South Bengal is sweltering, North Bengal is still enjoying pleasant weather.
- The IMD predicts thunderstorms & rain in Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Alipurduar, and Jalpaiguri.
- Winds of 30-40 kmph are expected in these areas.
- However, from Friday onwards, dry conditions will take over, and temperatures will rise steadily in North Bengal as well.
