Udaipur, May 29 — In a significant medical achievement, doctors at Pacific Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) Hospital, Umarda, successfully performed a rare angioplasty procedure on a patient’s abdominal artery. The procedure was conducted by the Cardiology Department, marking a milestone in specialized vascular interventions in the region.

99% Blockage in Abdominal Artery Detected
Chairman Ashish Agrawal stated that a 58-year-old patient was admitted to the hospital with persistent abdominal pain. A CT scan revealed a critical 99% blockage in the Superior Mesenteric Artery—a major vessel supplying blood to the intestines.
Following the diagnosis, Senior Consultant and Interventional Cardiologist Dr. Mahesh Jain, along with his medical team, successfully performed an angioplasty and inserted a stent into the affected artery. The procedure was supported by Cardiac Anesthetist Dr. Vipin Sisodia and Surgeon Dr. Vivek Rawat, whose combined expertise ensured a smooth and complication-free outcome.
Life-Threatening Condition Managed in Time
Dr. Mahesh Jain emphasized the urgency of treatment in such cases. “Blockages in the superior mesenteric artery can lead to severe abdominal pain, and in many cases, result in intestinal gangrene, especially after meals,” he explained. “If left untreated, the condition can be fatal due to the risk of intestinal tissue death.”
Thanks to the prompt diagnosis and intervention, the patient was discharged just three days after surgery and is now recovering well.
A Boost for Advanced Cardiac and Vascular Care in Southern Rajasthan
This successful procedure highlights the growing capabilities of regional healthcare institutions like PIMS Hospital in handling complex vascular conditions with modern medical techniques. It also reflects the hospital’s commitment to offering advanced care beyond conventional cardiac treatment.
