Leh, October 2 (Udaipur Kiran) : In Leh, on October 2, Lieutenant Governor Vinay Kumar Saxena unveiled the book titled “Sacred Art of Ladakh: Fading Treasures” by author Shrikant Somani. This work meticulously documents the Buddhist art, architecture, spiritual traditions, and sacred heritage sites of Ladakh.
At the launch event, Saxena expressed his honor in unveiling such a significant piece, emphasizing that the book serves not just as a collection of images but as an important documentary effort to preserve Ladakh’s rich culture, art, tradition, and heritage. He remarked that this heritage is the soul of the region.
Before the unveiling, Saxena reviewed the book’s pages and expressed his pleasure at how the author has captured Ladakh’s sacred and cultural heritage in great detail. He described Somani’s journey from a tourist to a dedicated guardian of Ladakh’s heritage as inspiring, highlighting the book’s aim to document the region’s gradually fading art and cultural legacy.
The Lieutenant Governor noted that the title of the book clearly reflects its subject matter. It attempts to reveal the historical, religious, and artistic significance of Ladakh’s sacred heritage sites through the stories conveyed by symbols and visuals. The book also offers insights into the cultural and spiritual heritage hidden within the art and architecture of these sites.
Author Shrikant Somani, a renowned industrialist and Managing Director of Somani Ceramics Limited, was deeply influenced by the art and cultural heritage during his visits to Ladakh. His interest led him to document the region’s heritage for preservation.
The book presents a detailed exploration of the historical, religious, and artistic characteristics of various sacred heritage sites in Ladakh, highlighting their symbolism and visual aspects while underscoring the urgent need for preserving fading art and heritage.
