Fake Document Claiming Army Commanders Removal Debunked

New Delhi, October 2 (Udaipur Kiran) : A purported official document claiming the removal of Lieutenant General Balbir Singh, General Officer Commanding of the Indian Army’s 15th Corps, has been confirmed as fake by the Indian Army. The document, which circulated on social media, falsely stated that Lt. Gen. Singh had been ordered to report to headquarters immediately.

The Army stated that the claims in the document are entirely misleading. A fact-check revealed that the document was generated using artificial intelligence and contained several obvious errors, which were overlooked by the social media accounts that shared it.

According to the Army, the document was linked to a press conference by a Pakistani military official, attempting to create a narrative that Lt. Gen. Singh had been removed from command following the conference. However, this assertion is baseless.

The Army clarified that no such order exists and pointed out inconsistencies in the language, format, and other details of the document that indicate its fraudulent nature. This incident is part of a broader pattern of disinformation, where fake documents are created and then circulated by multiple accounts to mislead the public about the Indian Armed Forces.

In the wake of these claims, the Army highlighted a significant joint operation that took place on September 29, where Indian forces eliminated a terrorist associated with the Pakistan-based group Lashkar-e-Taiba in the Budgam region.

Following this operation, various claims emerged on social media, including the rapid spread of the fake document. The Ministry of Information Technology has been made aware of several accounts that disseminated identical content around the same time, including handles like ReturnBabais, ShadowFox11, and others linked to Pakistani sources.

Messages from these accounts were circulated between 9:22 PM and 11:22 PM, prompting the Army to urge the public not to share or propagate unverified documents or claims, especially those related to military personnel and operations. The Army emphasized the importance of relying only on official and credible sources for information regarding security matters.

The clear message from the Army is to verify the authenticity of any document before sharing it as an official order, as misinformation can spread rapidly on social media. Citizens’ vigilance is crucial in preventing the spread of false information.
