Putin’s critic Navalny dies in prison: Sentenced to 19 years in 2021, imprisoned in the coldest prison in the Arctic

Alexei Navalny, the most prominent critic of Russian President Vladimir Putin, has died in prison. He was being held in the Polar Wolf prison, the most dangerous prison in Russia. Navalny’s death comes just a month before the presidential election in Russia, which will be held on March 15-17. Navalny was sentenced to 19 years in prison in 2021.

It was revealed two months ago, in December, that he was being held in the Polar Wolf prison. He had been missing for a considerable time before that. The temperature in the Arctic prison where he was being held can drop as low as -28 degrees Celsius. His lawyer claimed that he was sent to the Arctic prison to keep him away from the elections.

Navalny was attacked in 2017. He suffered a serious eye injury in the attack. In 2018, he tried to run for president, but was unable to do so due to fraud charges. Navalny had called it a government conspiracy. In July 2019, Navalny was sentenced to one month in prison after announcing a major protest.
