
Udaipur : A first-year student of Vidya Bhawan Polytechnic College in Udaipur committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling fan of his hostel room on Thursday night. He was the only son in his family and his death has sent shockwaves through his community.
The deceased, identified as Harshvardhan Singh (19), was a resident of Devgarh in Rajsamand district. He was studying in the first year of the polytechnic college and was staying in the college hostel.
According to the police, Harshvardhan’s roommate knocked on his door at around 9 pm on Thursday night but there was no response. He then called the warden and other students who broke open the door and found Harshvardhan hanging from the fan.
The police were informed and they rushed to the spot. They took the body to the MB Hospital where a post-mortem was conducted on Friday morning after the arrival of the family members.
Harshvardhan’s uncle, Charan Singh Chundawat, said that Harshvardhan had come to Devgarh on February 11 and had asked his father for Rs 15,000 to pay his college fees. He had returned to the hostel in Udaipur on February 14.
The police have not found any suicide note from the spot but are investigating the matter to ascertain the cause of the suicide.
