No Relief for Dera Sacha Sauda Chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim from Supreme Court

Investigation into Bargari Sacrilege Case to Continue, Says Apex Court

New Delhi, February 3 – The Supreme Court of India has refused to grant any relief to Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim in connection with the sacrilege of Shri Guru Granth Sahib Ji at Bargari. The apex court has ruled that the ongoing investigation in three cases against Ram Rahim will continue.

A bench headed by Justice B.R. Gavai has, however, maintained the stay imposed by the Punjab and Haryana High Court in March 2024 on the investigations related to these cases. The matter is now scheduled for its next hearing on March 18, 2025.

Punjab Government’s Appeal in Supreme Court

The Punjab Government had challenged the Punjab and Haryana High Court’s decision in the Supreme Court, seeking uninterrupted investigation into the 2015 sacrilege case.

The case dates back to 2015, when Punjab Police linked the incidents of religious sacrilege to the Dera Sacha Sauda, headquartered in Sirsa. The controversy arose after the discovery of torn pages of the Guru Granth Sahib, sacrilege-related posters, and the theft of a sacred manuscript in Faridkot.

These incidents led to widespread protests, resulting in a police firing on demonstrators, which led to the death of two people and injuries to several others. Gurmeet Ram Rahim has been named as an accused in three separate incidents related to the sacrilege case.

Key Developments in the Case

✔️ The Supreme Court has upheld the ongoing investigation into three sacrilege cases against Gurmeet Ram Rahim.
✔️ The Punjab and Haryana High Court’s 2024 order staying the probe remains in place for now.
✔️ The next hearing is scheduled for March 18, 2025.

The case remains a highly sensitive issue in Punjab, given its religious significance and the ongoing legal proceedings against Dera Sacha Sauda’s chief.
