Mumbai, February 18: Nepal ended its T20 World Cup winless streak by defeating Scotland by seven wickets on Tuesday, marking its first victory in the tournament since 2014. Captain Rohit Paudel expressed the significance of this win, especially as it was his second World Cup as captain and the first game in the final league stage.
Scotland set a target of 170 runs, losing seven wickets at Wankhede Stadium, but Nepal chased it down in just 19.2 overs, finishing with seven wickets in hand.
After the historic win, Paudel stated, “This victory means a lot to me. It was crucial for us as a team. The way Dipendra played was outstanding.” He also thanked the fans for their support, noting, “This win was important for them as well, especially after they witnessed our game against England. They were here and booked tickets to support us again.”
Nepal had narrowly lost to England by just four runs in a thrilling match, which Paudel believes taught the team valuable lessons about maintaining composure under pressure. “We learned how crucial it is to stay calm in tense situations,” he added.
While the team is satisfied with their performance, they aim to qualify for the Super-8 stage, having faced challenges in matches against Italy and the West Indies.
