Mumbai, 2 September (Kiran News): Mumbai Police on Tuesday issued a notice to Maratha reservation movement leader Manoj Jarange Patil, directing him to immediately vacate Azad Maidan. The notice alleges that Manoj Jarange violated rules during the ongoing protest. However, Jarange has stated that he will not leave the ground until his demands are fulfilled and that the agitation will continue at the same site. He expressed full faith in the judiciary.

Manoj Jarange Patil has been on an indefinite hunger strike at Azad Maidan since 29 August. Today marks the fifth day of his hunger strike. Following a hearing in the Bombay High Court on a petition filed against the protest, the court had ordered that Azad Maidan be vacated immediately and also directed that no protests be allowed anywhere else in Mumbai. After this court order, Mumbai Police issued a notice to Manoj Jarange this morning stating that permission could no longer be granted for the protest and that he must vacate Azad Maidan immediately.
Speaking to journalists, Manoj Jarange said that the Maratha community had vacated the Azad Maidan premises in compliance with the court order and that there was no traffic disruption in Mumbai. He alleged that the state government was trying to disrupt the movement, but reiterated that he would continue his agitation at Azad Maidan until his demands are met. Jarange said that if he dies during this protest, other activists will carry the movement forward and that he would not back down—the struggle would continue.
