Dehradun, 2 September (Kiran News): Continuous heavy rainfall in Uttarakhand has created an atmosphere of fear and concern across the state. Lakes formed on the Bhagirathi river at Harsil and the Yamuna river at Syana Chatti are posing serious risks. In Syana Chatti, the steadily rising water level of the Yamuna river has submerged hotels and residential buildings. Other rivers, including the Saryu, Gomti, Alaknanda, Bhilangana, Kali, and Mandakini, are flowing close to danger levels. Even residents of the plains are grappling with waterlogging as the crisis from excessive rainfall deepens.
In view of the situation, holidays have been declared in classes 1 to 12 and Anganwadi centres in the districts of Pauri, Rudraprayag, Bageshwar, Champawat, Uttarkashi, and Chamoli.
The Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for Tuesday in Dehradun, Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, and Bageshwar districts, forecasting heavy to very heavy rain, thunderstorms, and intense to extremely intense rainfall in some places. In response to the warnings, security has been increased along riverbanks and people are being advised to remain alert.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami is continuously monitoring updates from the State Disaster Management Authority and keeping a close watch on the situation.
