Mumbai Indians Struggle on Opponents Home Grounds

Guwahati, April 8: In the Indian Premier League (IPL), the Mumbai Indians (MI) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are two teams with a record of five championship wins each. However, both teams are currently facing a tough phase. While CSK’s situation can be discussed later, this article focuses on the Mumbai Indians, who have found opponents’ home grounds to be nothing short of a nightmare since IPL 2023.

On Tuesday, MI faced the Rajasthan Royals (RR) at their second home ground in Guwahati. Due to rain, the match was reduced to 11 overs per side. RR set a strong target, showcasing MI’s struggles. After losing the toss, RR batted first, with Yashasvi Jaiswal scoring an unbeaten 77 off 32 balls and Vaibhav Suryawanshi contributing 39 runs off 14 balls, leading to a total of 150 runs for three wickets. MI managed only 123 runs for nine wickets, losing the match by 27 runs.

This disappointing performance on opponents’ grounds is not new for MI. Since IPL 2023, they have consistently struggled away from home. Up until the match against RR on April 7, 2026, MI had played a total of 25 matches on opponents’ grounds, winning only nine and losing 16. Their win percentage of just 36% on opponents’ grounds since 2023 is the worst among all teams.

In IPL 2026, MI has played three matches so far, securing their only victory against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at their home ground, Wankhede Stadium. They faced defeats against Delhi Capitals at Arun Jaitley Cricket Stadium and RR at Barsapara Cricket Stadium.

Currently, MI stands in seventh place on the points table with two losses and one win in three matches.
