Ahmedabad, April 27 (Udaipur Kiran) – Indian Railways has announced a major upgrade for one of the country’s busiest rail corridors, with the Mumbai Central–Ahmedabad Vande Bharat Express (Train No. 22961/22962) set to operate permanently with 20 coaches from April 28.

According to the Railways, the four additional coaches that were earlier added on a temporary basis—three AC Chair Cars and one Executive Class—have now been made permanent. This move is expected to increase seat availability and reduce waiting lists for passengers.
Covering a distance of around 491 km, the train completes its journey in approximately 5 hours and 30 minutes. It halts at key stations including Borivali, Vapi, Surat, and Vadodara. The route is considered crucial for traders, students, working professionals, and tourists.
As per Indian Railways data, 162 Vande Bharat services have been launched so far. Around 4 crore passengers have travelled in 2025–26, while over 9.1 crore passengers have used the service overall. Travel time on several routes has been reduced by up to 45 percent. Currently, 23.45 percent of trains operate with 20 coaches, 21 percent with 16 coaches, and the rest with 8 coaches.
