Request Made to Upgrade Banswara via Salumber Road to National Highway

In a strategic push for infrastructural development in southern Rajasthan’s tribal belt, Udaipur MP Dr. Mannalal Rawat met with Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari in New Delhi. During the meeting, Dr. Rawat submitted a formal memorandum urging the central government to declare the Banswara via Salumber State Highway (SH-32) as a National Highway. He also advocated for the completion of stalled construction on the Udaipur–Jhadol road, particularly in the Raan Ghati and Paliyakheda sections.
The Banswara-Salumber stretch, currently a congested and accident-prone route, links Udaipur division headquarters to the Banswara district headquarters via Salumber. With a total length of 156.50 km, Dr. Rawat emphasized that upgrading this road to a four-lane National Highway would not only enhance connectivity but also improve road safety and economic potential in the tribal-dominated Mewar and Vagad regions.
Demand for Expressway Linking Udaipur to Javra via Bansi, Dhariyawad, and Pratapgarh
Dr. Rawat also highlighted the need for a new expressway connecting Udaipur to Javra through Bansi, Dhariyawad, and Pratapgarh. This would serve as a crucial link between Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh’s Ujjain metropolitan region, reducing travel time from 6–8 hours to just 2 hours.
According to the memorandum, the Madhya Pradesh government has already commenced work on the Ujjain–Javra expressway. Dr. Rawat suggested that extending this expressway through southern Rajasthan would create a seamless high-speed corridor from Udaipur to Delhi-Mumbai Expressway via Javra.
He noted that previous demands for this project had been raised by Chittorgarh MP C.P. Joshi as well, underlining the bipartisan support for enhanced regional connectivity.
Strategic Boost for Tribal and Tourism-Driven Development
Udaipur, internationally renowned as the “City of Lakes,” is a major tourism destination. Dr. Rawat pointed out that improving infrastructure through expressways and national highways will facilitate not only tourism but also agricultural, forestry, and industrial development in tribal zones. He also stressed that religious travel would benefit greatly, particularly towards Nathdwara and Mandfiya, which are already connected via high-capacity roads.
Dr. Rawat appealed for swift approval of the Udaipur–Javra expressway to accelerate tribal development, education, and industrial growth in the region. Minister Gadkari has reportedly given positive instructions to the attending officials for further examination and resolution.
