Journalist Bhupendra Singh Chauhan Shot Dead in Jhajjar, Haryana

Chandigarh, May 19 – In a shocking incident, journalist Bhupendra Singh Chauhan was shot dead in Jhajjar, Haryana, on Sunday night. The assailants reportedly shot him twice in the head before fleeing the scene. Chauhan was rushed to Medanta Medicity Hospital in Gurugram in critical condition, where he succumbed to his injuries early Monday morning.

Shot Near His Residence

According to the Haryana Police, Chauhan, who worked for a private television channel, was known for his investigative journalism based on information procured through Right to Information (RTI) requests.

On Sunday evening, Chauhan had gone out for a walk after dinner near his home in Luhari village on the Patauda-Helimandi Road when unidentified assailants opened fire on him. The gunshots struck him in the head, leaving him gravely injured.

Hearing the gunfire, local residents rushed out of their homes, only to find Chauhan lying in a pool of blood while the attackers fled the scene. His family immediately transported him to a private hospital in Pataudi before he was shifted to Medanta in Gurugram.

Investigation Underway

The local police, along with the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team, reached the site and began collecting evidence. Police have launched a manhunt for the unknown attackers and are currently scanning CCTV footage from nearby areas to identify suspects.

A police official stated that significant leads could be developed after recording statements from the victim’s family and those close to him. As of now, no motive has been confirmed, but his work as a journalist and his use of RTI for exposing sensitive information is being investigated as a potential angle.
