Iran Accuses US of Violating International Law by Targeting Civil Infrastructure

New Delhi, July 18: Iran’s permanent representative to the United Nations, Amir-Saeed Iravani, has accused the United States of targeting Iran’s civilian infrastructure in a letter to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.

In the letter, Iravani stated that US attacks have caused significant damage to ports, transportation networks, communication facilities, logistics hubs, radar installations, coastal defense systems, and other infrastructures vital for the lives of ordinary citizens and the functioning of the country’s economy.

He alleged that the US is responsible for the “deaths, injuries, damage to critical infrastructure, and environmental harm” resulting from these attacks.

Iravani also asserted that these US actions violate international law and pose a serious threat to “international peace and security, freedom of maritime navigation, regional stability, and the security of the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz.”

Iranian officials have claimed that a US attack damaged the pumps of a desalination plant located in the coastal area of Bounji village (Jask County, Hormozgan Province), disrupting drinking water supply to around 20 nearby villages.

According to the semi-official Tasnim News Agency, Hamzeh Poor, head of the Hormozgan Water and Wastewater Company, stated that approximately 10,000 people’s water supply has been affected by this attack.

Poor noted that the pumping station and an electricity transformer at the Bounji desalination plant were completely destroyed, leading to a severe water crisis in the affected villages, with local authorities working to restore supply.

Meanwhile, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed to have launched missile attacks on US bases in Kuwait and Bahrain, reporting strikes on the US Navy’s fuel support pier at Kuwait’s Al-Ahmadi port and drone and missile attacks at Bahrain’s Sheikh Isa Airbase. According to Tasnim News Agency, the IRGC also destroyed the US intelligence data center ‘Batelco’ in Bahrain.
